38. how many ears needed before you can hear people cry?
I think no one has captured the spirit of our generation better than Bob Dylan. With his intellectually profound lyrics he has made us aware about many hidden truths and problems and also made us think over it in a serious way.
Whenever I listen to his songs, I feel very touched, and sometimes very sad. The best thing he also provides a little bit of optimism in his songs.
One of my favorites is “Blowin’ in the Wind”.
One can interpret this song according to his own liking. There is no one answer, not one meaning that suits all.
My analysis is - Bob Dylan is seeing suffering, unnecessary death from war, and from hunger.
He feels bad watching the willful ignorance of people looking at the sky and pretending they don't see the happenings around.
Dylan suggests how easy it might be to solve these problems, but that people just won’t do it.
With a sad note he keeps asking, how long will it take before we finally make the change?
And he also points out that like the wind, the answers are just in front of our face but we don’t see them.

Blowin' In the Wind
How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, and how many times must the cannonballs fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
Yes, and how many years must a mountain exist
Before it is washed to the sea?
Yes, and how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
Yes, and how many times can a man turn his head
And pretend that he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
Yes, and how many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, and how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
