27. Still Waiting at the Door

Today while channel surfing, I saw a video where an old man was singing and most of the audience were in tears. The tears and the lyrics of the song attracted my attention.

The song is written not by some great song writer, yet I am told that it got viral on social media.

Still Waiting at the Door is an emotional song which was performed by an old man named Ernesto on the popular television programme ‘America's Got Talent’.

It is a moving song and with a very strong emotional touch Ernesto performs it along with the context.

The song tells the story of Ernesto’s family trouble. His wife and son left him and the song describes his deep love and pain. It’s indeed a moving experience. A father’s story straight from the heart! It touches the soul.

It happens in USA and some of the European countries, where divorce rate is very high. I’ve a friend who has lost touch with his ex-wife and his son and a daughter.

He often jokes that if a husband wants to leave, the woman can try to stop him. Because he may think again before leaving the home.

But if a wife wants to leave, she will leave ultimately because in her mind she has already left the home. The sad part is if the children are small, she will feed them all nonsense about their father.

And that explains why you can see most of the audience in tears. Either they are at this side of the fence or at the opposite side.

Here it is, but better watch it -

I built our home with bleeding hands
Laid each brick with love and plans
You were my light, my reason why
Now I just talk to an empty sky

I'm still waiting at the door
Where your laughter lived before

Every night, I whisper low
Come back home, don't let me go
But silence is all I know

You wore your cap, I fixed your tie
Watched you chase your dreams and fly
I gave you wings, I stayed behind
But now you're gone, and so is time

I'm still waiting at the door
Where your footsteps touch the floor
Even pain begins to fade
But the love, it always stays
Still alone, still afraid

I don't need much, just one more day
To hear you call, to hear you say
That I remember who you are

But wishes don't go that far

So, I sing here on this stage
Old and tired, full of ache
Not for gold, not for fame
Just to call out your name
Still waiting, still the same
